TEACHING ABOUT GENOCIDE: THE CAMBODIAN GENOCIDE, THE GUATEMALAN GENOCIDE, AND THE SOUTH SUDAN CIVIL WAR

Our webinars are designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Holocaust history, explore and access classroom-ready content, and support instructional practice to promote student learning and understanding of this complex history and its lasting effect on the world.

Teaching about genocide with testimony humanizes these histories and deepens students' understanding of the people who were targeted. Genocides have continued throughout the 20th and 21st centuries, following the Holocaust. The USC Shoah Foundation’s Visual History Archive and IWitness educational platform contain testimonies and supporting resources related to the Cambodian Genocide, the Guatemalan Genocide and the South Sudanese Civil War. Testimonies from these experiences encourage reflection on the human impact of these events.

In this webinar, Sedda Antekelian, Senior Learning and Development and Lacey Schauwecker, Program and Development Lead, will present testimony-based activities that teach about these histories and further contextualize the Echoes & Reflections Unit 12 on Teaching about Genocide.
