DIGITAL MEDIA AND HOLOCAUST MEMORY: OPPORTUNITIES AND IMPACTS
February 25th, 2020
3PM - 4PM EST
Digital media allows new forms of engagement with the history of the Holocaust, including through social media, interactive videos and apps, and even games. These creative responses can draw significant attention, such as the more than one million Instagram followers of @Eva.Stories, based on the diary of a Hungarian Jewish girl shortly before her deportation to Auschwitz. While these approaches offer increased access to history, they also influence how we understand and engage with the past. This webinar, led by Dr. Tobias Ebbrecht-Hartmann of the Hebrew University, will introduce and critically consider different approaches to Holocaust commemoration and education in the digital age, and how these platforms and approaches are influencing access to the history of the Holocaust for the next generation.
