The February 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, were held in a world on the brink of war. Germany's role in hosting both winter and summer games just before the outbreak of World War II offered the international community a unique look into a fascist society where Jewish freedom and safety were increasingly at risk.
