LIVING AND SURVIVING IN THE JEWISH PARTISANS

Our webinars are designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Holocaust history, explore and access classroom-ready content, and support instructional practice to promote student learning and understanding of this complex history and its lasting effect on the world.

During World War II, approximately 30,000 Jews, many of them teenagers, fought back against the Nazis and their collaborators in armed resistance. How did these Jewish partisans survive in the forests of Nazi-occupied Europe—and what can their experiences teach students today? Led by Sheri Rosenblum, Director of Operations, Development, and Programs for the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation, educators will explore the Living and Surviving in the Jewish Partisans lesson, designed for grades 6–12. Through short films, firsthand testimonies, primary sources, and classroom activities, participants will examine the challenges of finding food, medicine, clothing, and shelter while confronting danger, antisemitism, and difficult ethical choices.

Teachers will leave with ready-to-use strategies and activities they can bring directly into their classrooms, including opportunities for students to explore the themes of resourcefulness, courage, resistance, and resilience. The lesson and its accompanying films are also available in Spanish.
