MY FRIEND ABE, A 90-YEAR-OLD HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR

September 9th, 2025

4:00 PM ET

Our webinars are designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Holocaust history, explore and access classroom-ready content, and support instructional practice to promote student learning and understanding of this complex history and its lasting effect on the world.

Abe Piasek was 13 years old in 1942 when he was taken from his family in Poland – he never saw his parents or his little sister again. He spent the next three years forced to work in slave labor camps. Liberated in 1945, Abe was 16 ½ years old and weighed just 75 pounds. Steve Goldberg, a history teacher for more than 20 years, befriended Abe during the last year of Abe's life. Three days before he passed away at age 91, Abe asked Steve to "keep telling my story," a promise Steve has taken very seriously. Hear him tell Abe's story through curated video clips of Abe’s public speeches, as well as personal interviews.
