THE TOOL IS NOT THE TEACHER: GENERATIVE AI AND HOLOCAUST EDUCATION
March 12th, 2026
4:00 PM ET
Our webinars are designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Holocaust history, explore and access classroom-ready content, and support instructional practice to promote student learning and understanding of this complex history and its lasting effect on the world.
In this session, Virginia Tech Education Professors Amy Allen and David Hicks invite educators to think critically about generative AI through the lens of historical thinking, ethics, and inquiry. Participants will explore both the possibilities and limitations of AI tools for Holocaust education—examining issues of accuracy, bias, sourcing, and moral responsibility—while considering classroom strategies that keep human judgment, survivor voices, and disciplinary thinking at the center. This webinar emphasizes using AI with care, curiosity, and purpose rather than as a substitute for thoughtful teaching and learning.
