USING ART TO TEACH ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST

May 6th, 2021

4PM - 5PM EST

Visual art can be a very useful tool in the classroom to support students’ ability to connect to and understand complex or sensitive topics. The colorful embroidered story cloths sewn by Esther Nisenthal Kritinitz depict a young survivor’s journey through the occupation of her once bucolic peaceful village, the Holocaust, and her emigration to the United States. Her full collection is currently on display at the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) in Baltimore, MD. In this webinar, Rebecca Hoffberger, the founder of AVAM and Esther’s daughter and cofounder of Art & Remembrance, Bernice Steinhardt, will join an Echoes & Reflections facilitator to discuss how visual arts can be used to teach the Holocaust in the classroom.
