THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE WAR REFUGEE BOARD: AMERICA'S ATTEMPT TO RESCUE VICTIMS OF THE NAZIS

For nearly two decades, immigration law made it incredibly challenging for Jewish refugees to escape Nazi occupied Europe. Finally, in 1944, Franklin Roosevelt took action. With the approach of the 78th Anniversary of the creation of the War Refugee Board, this webinar will explore the events that led up to the signing of Executive Order 9417 which created the WRB, and the Board's impact on refugees during the era of the Holocaust. Dr. Rebecca Erbelding, a historian from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and author of Rescue Board: The Untold Story of America's Efforts to Save the Jews of Europe, will lead this program.
