WOLF GRUNER, "RESISTERS: HOW ORDINARY JEWS FOUGHT PERSECUTION IN HITLER'S GERMANY"

January 24th, 2024

4:00 PM ET

Our webinars are designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Holocaust history, explore and access classroom-ready content, and support instructional practice to promote student learning and understanding of this complex history and its lasting effect on the world.

Through the life histories of five Jewish people--a merchant, a homemaker, a real estate broker, and two teenagers--who bravely resisted persecution and defended themselves in Nazi Germany, Wolf Gruner's new book, "Resisters: How Ordinary Jews Fought Persecution in Hitler's Germany," upends the common notion of passive Jews in Hitler's Germany. The book draws on twelve years of research and expands the concept of resistance, challenging the misconception that Jews were passive.

During this webinar, Gruner discusses the inspiration, the contents, and purpose of his book. We also explore how to activate the updated Echoes & Reflections Unit VII: "Jewish Resistance" to broaden student understanding and perspective of resistance efforts made by some Jews during the Holocaust. This webinar connects to the Jewish Resistance lesson plan on the Echoes & Reflections website.
