YOUNG LIVES STOLEN: EXPERIENCES OF TEENAGERS IN THE GHETTOS

September 14, 2026

4:00 PM ET

Our webinars are designed to increase participants’ knowledge of Holocaust history, explore and access classroom-ready content, and support instructional practice to promote student learning and understanding of this complex history and its lasting effect on the world.

Between 1939 and 1945, the Nazis forcibly imprisoned Jews in more than 1,100 ghettos across occupied Europe. For the teenagers who lived within those walls, the experience meant the sudden, violent loss of school, family routines, friendships, and the very possibility of a future. Their stories, told through diary entries, photographs, visual history testimony, and poetry, tell a complex narrative of suffering and death but also of love and hope.

Led by classroom teacher and Echoes & Reflections facilitator Tyrone Shaw, participants will deepen their understanding of the ghettos and learn effective strategies to incorporate the perspectives of young people into this chapter of Holocaust history, invoking a more nuanced understanding of life in the ghettos and fostering empathy in their students.
